Real Madrid coach Santiago Solari talked to the press after the team’s 3-0 win against Leganes in the Copa del Rey. Los Blancos all but secured their presence in the next round but Real Madrid have a reason for concern because of their current injury plague. Kroos, Llorente, Courtois, Asensio and Gareth Bale are all injured.
“The explanation is a general thing. These are players who are competing at the top level, playing every week for their clubs and national sides. Injuries, even when so many come at once, are all part of top-level competition. There weren’t so many games 15 years ago,” said Solari.
Vinicius was one of the top performers for Madrid once again, scoring a beautiful goal and being a threat all game long.
“It was a very good performance. Vinicius is making huge strides. He’s always had the talent but to develop it at the Bernabéu surrounded by wonderful players speaks volumes about his confidence, rawness and the enjoyment he exudes with the ball at his feet. He’s 18 years of age and you have to look after yourself in football. It’s important for him to keep going. We’re very happy with his current performance levels, he’s keen to take people on. He’s bold and that individual ability to beat a man is very important in modern-day football. His goal showed wonderful technique, and also how he puts defenders off balance. We hope he continues to grow both from individual and collective points of view,” explained the coach.
Keylor Navas got the start and might as well continue to defend Real Madrid’s goal as long as Courtois is injured. He performed very well and earned Solari’s praise.
“Keylor Navas was very good. He’s a great professional and has my respect for his past, his present and his future. He will continue to be an important player,” concluded Solari.
