According to a reports from Spanish publication, Marca, and Brazilians outlet, Brasil Yahoo Sport as well as UOL, Eder Militao will sign to become a Real Madrid player in a matter of days. The Brazilian would form part of the squad in July 2019. With this signing, Madrid would be re-enforcing the center back position—potentially preparing for the eventual decline and departure of Sergio Ramos. Jesus Vallejo, the youngster expected to be groomed for such a role, has been ravaged by injuries which has likely forced Madrid’s hand in the transfer market.

Porto is reportedly aware of the interest of Madrid as well as other big clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool. Because of that interest, they have refused to back down from the €50 million release clause set in his contract. Madrid are set to trigger said clause, as many reports have suggested that the figure could rise to €75 million after the 15th of July. So given the contract stipulations and the competition, Madrid has looked to move quickly and efficiently in wrapping this deal up.

The player only arrived from Sao Paulo this summer for a mere €4 million where he primarily played as a right fullback. Since moving to Portugal, he has set the league alight as a center back and has won an unpresented four consecutive “Defender of the Month” awards, thus his price has skyrocketed. At only 20-years-old, many in Europe have rated Militao as one of the top defensive prospects in the game, alongside Dutch wonder-kid, Matthijs de Ligt. The signing would continue to fall under the youth policy recently imposed by the club and would ideally add strength in depth at the heart of the defense.
