This is a good draw for Real Madrid, even though Girona have a solid team sitting in ninth position in La Liga. Los Blancos earned a solid comeback win on their visit to Girona last August and will be playing the return leg in Montilivi, meaning that the opening leg at the Santiago Bernabeu next week could be crucial if Madrid can keep a clean sheet.
Real Madrid should be considered the favorites to advance to the Semifinals, there’s no question. Even more so if Girona end up losing striker Stuani, who is reportedly on FC Barcelona’s radar this winter.
In other news, Barcelona will face Sevilla in this round. Solari and the rest of the coaching staff will surely be hoping that Messi and Co. drop some points in La Liga while they focus on that tough tie.
Expect Solari to stop making so many rotations in this stage of the Copa del Rey.
