A 2-0 victory over rivals Sevilla in the Bernabeu gives Madrid some breathing room as they move up to third. Full player ratings below:

Thibaut Courtois—6.5: First game back for the Belgian after his brief injury. Sevilla barely tested the keeper, but did come out brilliantly to stop a 1v1 with Escudero.

Dani Carvajal—8.5: The right full back has been in fine form. He worked tirelessly to execute Solari’s press and made a number of incisive under lapping runs which created space and opportunities for Modric and Vazquez.

Raphael Varane—6.5: Solid game from Varane who had little to deal with, kept possession with his simple but composed game. He and Ramos were instrumental in executing Solari’s press by keeping a high line.

Sergio Ramos—9: Had 15 ball retrievals before an hour had even passed. Was vital to Solari’s pressing game plan, as he pushed the defensive line and high and stepped out aggressively to end any counter attack

Sergio Reguilón—8: Another impressive performance from the Madrid youth product who picked his moments to attack well and nullified the impact of a speedy and in-form Jesus Navas.

Casemiro—7.5: Scored an absolutely golazo to break the deadlock. Seems to be regaining fitness and the goal will help his confidence.

Dani Ceballos—9: What a performance, hardly put a foot wrong. Worked immensely hard off the ball, and was active in moving the team forward when in possession.

Luka Modric—8: Slowly but surely getting back to his best. Another performance which showed very encouraging signs. Had a few wayward passes early on, but otherwise was back to being the metronome that makes Madrid tick. Scored a late goal to cap off the victory.

Lucas Vazquez—5.5: Provided a lot of width and looked to take his man on 1 v 1 at every opportunity, but produced little end product.

Vinicius JR—7: Another exuberant and impressive performance from the Brazilian. Had 5 shots, 2 of which were on target. Needs to improve on his finishing as he was out through 1 v 1 early on and squandered the opportunity. Finished the match with 2 key passes and 4 completed dribbles.

Karim Benzema—6.5: A solid game from the Frenchman. Nothing spectacular, but did finish the match with 3 key passes and 2 shots on target.

Substitutions:

Isco—7: Showed good energy after coming on for Lucas Vazquez and nearly scored.

Fede Valverde—N/A: Came on in the last few minutes.
