Nacho, Dani Carvajal, and Lucas Vazquez—all Real Madrid youth products and former Castilla players, enjoyed the final training session of 2018 playing in the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium. After a session that was open to the public, the three spoke with Real Madrid TV and recalled their fond memories of playing in the stadium with Castilla. “ I think the ascend to Segunda was one of the most magical memories. Every time we step on this pitch, that scene and that day come to mind. I remember it with a lot of affection”

Nacho then expanded upon Carvajal word’s, calling the ascend to the Segunda one of the greatest memories in his footballing career, “It was a special year, to be able to go up to the second division, it wasn’t just a special year but a special group. If I had to only keep one year in my footballing career, I would stay with that year” he noted. The group Nacho speaks of included players like Alvaro Morata, Jese Rodriguez, Pablo Sarabia, Denis Cheryshev, and of course the three current Madrid players.

It was a golden generation within the Castilla ranks and the current crop are looking to follow in the footsteps by ascending to the Segunda. Real Madrid Castilla currently sit 3rd, one point off the top of the Segunda B table. Players like Javi Sanchez, Fidalgo, Franchu, Seoane, Cesar Gelabert, Manu Hernando, and Cristo Gonzalez are looking to be part of the next generation who take Castilla up a level. Many of those, quite possibly all, may not make it at Madrid, but could prove to be quality La Liga players much like Pablo Sarabia or Denis Cheryshev.
