Despite Chelsea’s up and down form in the Premier League this season, Eden Hazard continues to be one of the best players in the league. His 10 goals and 10 assists are testament to the quality he possesses. The Belgian has been incessantly linked with a move to Real Madrid, largely in part to his own admissions, or rather, professed admiration for the club. In an interview with France Football, where he was asked if a move to Madrid would please him, he once again opened the door. “Why not? You know it very well. You’re asking the question, but you know what the answer will be so you don’t have to ask it.”

Quickly after making another Real Madrid admission, Hazard did not discard continuing at Chelsea: “I’ve won everything in England, apart from the Community Shield, but that doesn’t mean I’m leaving. I’ve always said that I wanted to explore something different after England but there are also things that might make me stay. After the World Cup, I wanted to leave, but in the end I stayed at Chelsea and I’m playing one of the best seasons so far.”

The interview found it’s way to Zinedine Zidane. Many will know that Eden idolized the Frenchman as a youngster and was likely desperate to play under him. Though, Zidane’s departure does not deter him from the allure of the Real Madrid shirt. When prompted, “Real without Zidane is still Real, right?” the Belgian followed by answering, “It’s different, but still Real”. He then went on to say that his next career move will not be influenced by his former idol, “If he goes to Manchester tomorrow, for instance, I will not be going there.” With his contract running out in 2020, Hazard could be purchased at a “discounted” price. Time will tell if the club makes a move in the summer, but given the constant flirtation it’s likely that the club have already been in touch with his representatives.
