The defender had to leave Sunday’s match against Espanyol.

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos will miss the team’s trip to Girona to play the return leg of the Copa del Rey Quarterfinals this Thursday. The captain was forced to leave the match against Espanyol this Sunday and was replaced by Nacho.

Ramos will get tests on his knee this Tuesday but he talked briefly to the press after the game and said that “it was just a big knock,” adding that this isn’t a big injury.

It’s worth mentioning that Ramos has managed to stay healthy all season long, so it’s time for other players to step up and give him a chance to get some valuable rest. Ramos reportedly wants to play against Alaves next weekend —even more so considering that Varane will be suspended for that game—, so Nacho will most likely replace the captain in the starting lineup against Girona. Vallejo is still injured, so Solari will need to trust the Castilla players in case something happens to his starters.
