Kroos: “We still have the chance to win titles”

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos talked to German newspaper Welt and explained what went wrong with the team’s first half of the season.

“We struggled quite a lot during the first half of the season, dropping so many points. However, I always knew by looking at the past few years that we have a great team and that we just have to keep working. This is true when we are playing well like we are right now and also when we are struggling. We still have two good chances to win a title this season and that’s our focus. We never had a reason to give up,” explains Kroos, suggesting that the roster doesn’t believe in their chances to conquer La Liga title.

Real Madrid found themselves in a similar position last year and ended up winning the Champions league title. Although it’s clear that it might be extremely difficult to conquer their fourth straight European trophy, Kroos and his teammates will try.

“The last few years prove it. We were defeated quite early last season and La Liga wasn’t a very realistic chance, however we stayed focused because we knew we could be winning something, and that’s what happened with the Champions League,” adds the midfielder.

It’s encouraging to see that the players believe in their capabilities to win titles this year, but hopefully they will try their very best in the Copa del Rey as well, because a fourth straight Champions League trophy would be a miracle.
