"We failed two one-on-one that cost us the match" - Courtois

Thibaut Courtois took some time to speak to the sidelines press after the disaster in Villarreal.

Here's what he had to say.

TC: We had chances to kill off the match, we didn’t do it and well, a bit of carelessness in the back or something like that, Santi was left alone and yeah...

?: That was the goal, but how do you explain the second half where you lost control of the match completely?

TC: I didn’t get that impression. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I saw we had long spells of possession, we also attacked with danger, not many times, but more than them. I didn’t think we were in much danger either. I thought it was a controlled match with 2 teams that wanted the ball. And well, we couldn’t lose points here today.

?: Did the Club World Cup influence today?

TC: No, I don’t believe so. I think we we’ve trained well these days. We were all prepared for today. We started the match a bit badly, with a save and then a goal against, but we recuperated quickly with two goals. We failed two one on ones and I think the game was lost there as well.

?: A big slip-up in La Liga?

TC: Today was a match we needed to win, to shorten the distance, but well, now we need to prepare for Sociedad at home.
