Real Madrid’s visit to Villarreal’s Estadio de la Ceramica was a disaster for coach Santiago Solari. Not only his team dropped points and now find themselves seven points behind Barcelona in the table, they also lost Gareth Bale to yet another calf injury he picked up during the first half. Bale will get an MRI on his calf this Saturday but it looks like he will definitely need to miss the home match against Real Sociedad.
The Welshman had a brilliant FIFA Club World Cup for Madrid but he just can’t stay healthy. Considering that Marco Asensio is also injured at the moment, Solari might be forced to start Isco on the left wing, given that Vinicius is not ready to make an impact on a consistent basis.
Real Madrid are a pretty mediocre team right now and Bale’s injury will make things even worse for Los Blancos. The schedule doesn’t get any more manageable for Madrid as they visit Betis on January 13th before hosting Sevilla the week after. Solari just has to find a way out of this situation sooner rather than later.
