Real Madrid have realized that their current midfield is not enough to fight for all three titles this season and will try to sign Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen during the winter transfer window, according to a report from both Marca and As.
Eriksen’s contract with Tottenham expires in the summer of 2020 and he will be free to agree to a deal with any club this winter, although he would have to wait until the summer to join his new club.
However, Madrid seem willing to spend around €30 million so that Eriksen can help the club during the second half of the season. As’ report suggests that Eriksen would rather wait until he’s a free agent to sign for Real Madrid so that his new salary is higher.
If Los Blancos end up signing the Danish midfielder they will almost certainly have to let some players go. Mariano or Brahim Diaz seem to be the most likely candidates —the latter would only leave on a loan deal— but Isco could also join the list if he is not given relevant minutes any time soon.
All in all, it would make sense for Real Madrid to go after Eriksen given his quality and how cheap he’d be this next winter.
