Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who is spending the 2019-2020 season with Valladolid on a loan deal, talked to Football Hub and revealed why he left the club this past summer.

“Nobody knew Keylor Navas was going to leave Real Madrid, I would’ve had the chance to stay otherwise,” said Lunin.

The Ukrainian keeper still wanted to praise his former teammate.

“Keylor’s attitude helped me being comfortable in the team. We had lunch together and we always talked, which helped me a lot. He always asked about my situation and I’m grateful for the help he gave me,” added Lunin.

Lunin hasn’t been a relevant player in neither one of his loan deals in La Liga. He barely played for Leganes last season and more of the same is happening this year in Valladolid. The young goalkeeper reveals that Leganes had to pay some kind of compensation for not giving him minutes last season.

“I know some kind of clause about my minutes was included in my contract with Leganes, but I don’t know precisely. I do know that Leganes paid some kind of fine to Real Madrid,” explains Lunin.

“Valladolid have some high-quality players, training sessions are tough and very quick, but they’re good for my development,” concluded Lunin.

The young goalkeeper will surely hope to be Courtois’ backup next season, although he still needs minutes to make some progress and improve as a player.
