OFFICIAL: El Clasico in Barcelona postponed, new date should be set before Monday

The match won’t be played at the Bernabeu.

It’s official. Most reports in the Spanish press announced that the RFEF was going to postpone El Clasico and today the Federation published the news on their official website and social media.

The RFEF adds that Barcelona and Real Madrid will have to reach an agreement about the new date before next Monday, with December 7th —not December 18th— as the main option for the match to take place. If the clubs can’t agree on that new date, RFEF will be the ones making decision.

While December 18th seemed to be a good choice, La Liga president Javier Tebas refused that thought because it’s a weekday and there’s a Copa del Rey tie scheduled for that date. Both Real Madrid and Barça have other Liga games scheduled for December 7th but those could be postponed as well.

In the end, what’s clear now is that El Clasico won’t be played next week.
