Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane talked to the press after the team’s discouraging 1-0 loss against Mallorca this Saturday. Los Blancos gave up the lead in the table and are now one point behind Barcelona.
“We knew we were facing a team who were playing at home and who don’t deserve their current position in the table. We struggled creating plays. We dominated but without creating chances. It’s not a matter of our system or the players we use, this is the decision I made. We’re not happy with the game and we have to analyze it,” said Zidane during the post-match press conference.
Real Madrid conceded Mallorca’s game winning goal in the first 10 minutes of the game and it looked like Mallorca could’ve even increased their lead as Los Blancos couldn’t match their intensity during the first few minutes of the game.
“Our start to the match was very, very poor. We conceded a goal and then we kind of bounced back in the second part of the first half. In the second half we just didn’t create goalscoring chances and it’s tough when that happens. We lacked everything. I don’t like to use the word “worry” but we’ve struggled during the first minutes of the game for quite some matches now,” explained the coach.
Zidane wants to see more consistency from his team, who will face Galatasaray in a crucial match next Tuesday.
“We’re playing a game every three days and we have to be consistent. A game like this one just can’t happen. If we want to do important things we have to be consistent and play with more activity. The injured players are not an excuse, we can’t change that. We have more players and all of them have to prove they have the level to play for this club,” concluded a disappointed Zidane.
