Real Madrid’s board believe that the current midfield is not enough to succeed this season and are currently considering signing a player for that spot when the winter transfer window opens, according to a report from MARCA.

Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen and Ajax’s Donny Van de Beek appear to be the club’s main options, given that it seems impossible to complete a move for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba. However, Van de Beek talked to the press this week and revealed that he won’t leave the Dutch club in the winter transfer window, which means that Eriksen might indeed be the most likely candidate. The Danish midfielder has not signed an extension with Tottenham yet and his signing could be quite cheap considering that he will be a free agent next summer.

Still, Real Madrid will want to sell some players before completing any kind of signing. Mariano Diaz’s contract is still on the books and the club will try to find him a new club during the winter. The same happens with Brahim Diaz, who wanted to stay when Madrid suggested a loan deal. Brahim hasn’t made his season debut and it seems that he won’t make it any time soon, so a loan does make a lot of sense if coach Zidane isn’t going to find him minutes.

Real Madrid need to improve their midfield line and it seems that the club is willing to do it. Whether that will be enough to compete for all three titles or not remains to be seen.
