This is good news for Zinedine Zidane and the coaching staff given that Real Madrid have no pure left-backs available. Carvajal completed a solid performance on that flank this past weekend but it is Mendy’s natural position.
The Frenchman has been a positive every time he’s been given the chance to play. Mendy’s energy and pace have been very useful on defense and he’s also been a threat offensively, so if both Mendy and Marcelo stay healthy, their battle for the starting spot in Real’s XI should be a very interesting one to watch.
If Marcelo can’t recover in time for the upcoming Clasico against Barcelona, Mendy will be the one starting on Real’s left side of the defense, although it looks like the Brazilian player could be ready.
