Sergio Reguilon, Real Madrid’s left back on loan to La Liga side Sevilla, is one of the fresh faces within the Spanish National team squad. The 22-year-old gave an interview to Cadena Copa and Radio Marca late Tuesday evening where he talked about his call-up, his performances with Sevilla, and his thoughts on Real Madrid.
Adaptation to the Full Spanish NT: “I’ve been here one day, so I don’t know what it’s like just yet - I don’t even know where the showers are or the changing room. I want to enjoy this moment. My teammates are guiding me, guys like Oyarzabal, Jesus, Carvajal— they are all guiding me. I hope to wear the number 23, for my brother, it’s his favorite number and the one I have worn since becoming a professional.”
“One year ago I had only played one game as a professional and today I’m freaking out about all this. Being in the Spanish National team with these people is the pinnacle.”
Sevilla: “I am very comfortable in Seville, the people love me and the city as well as my teammates are great.
Zidane: “I don’t think Zidane will get stick for seeing me in the national team, just the opposite, he’ll be happy for me.
Real Madrid: “I see the [Real Madrid] games as if it were another game. I stopped being ultra [fanatical] about it a long time ago, last year I started as a professional and now I’m calmer.”
Goals for the future: To remain with Spanish national team, competing at the highest level and simply to be happy. My dream is to win the Champions League someday, if it is with Madrid then great, if not, then wherever.”
Jordi Alba: “He has a very high level, overcoming it is very difficult. But I am young, I have a lot of my career ahead of me. I hope to be competing for the coming years. But for now, I’m just enjoying this moment to the fullest.”
