Did Real Madrid Miss a Trick?

Real Madrid needs a force in the midfield. It's common knowledge. In the last transfer window, there were three options to choose from-Paul Pogba, Van De Beek and Christian Eriksen. They bought none. It’s not even November and they are in a dire situation because of that decision.

Real Madrid needs a Central Midfielder in January. Again three of them are being discussed. But Beek does not want to change club mid-season, buying Pogba will cost the club north of 150 million. The only plausible option is Eriksen. According to Marca and AS, he can join real just for 25 million.

Jonathan Johnson, ESPN’s league one correspondent tweeted a month ago, PSG is keeping tabs on River Plate’s Exequiel Palacios. Remember him? that's the one who was dubbed as the next Riquelme. The type of midfielder Argentina doesn't produce anymore, someone who could be the answer to Messi's frustration at the international level. The fabulous midfielder was verge on joining real in January. A deal was struck with the argentine club for 20 million. But untimely injury had caused a last-minute breakdown. Even though real kept track of the midfielder, the transfer never materialized.

Zidane’s return and club’s new priorities have stalled the transfer. After 2018/19 fiasco, real now want mature and experienced midfielder. Hence, Zidane is waiting for Pogba and the club president is eager to complete the long waited Eriksen-deal.

In the meantime Palacios is doing what he does best, creating havoc in the argentine league. Inter Miami tried to buy him. The player who mesmerized the Santiago Bernabéu in the Copa Libertadores final is now far away from ever becoming a Madridista. Another transfer window is coming, Real Madrid needs a midfielder. A generational midfielder is waiting for them. But there is no talk of a transfer. Madrid, what is wrong with you?
