Jose Mourinho was appointed the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur after Mauricio Pochettino’s surprise sacking. The Portuguese has already spoken to the press after taking his new role, and of the many questions asked, one was about his former club, Real Madrid.
“Have I talked with Real Madrid? I have many friends there, and the President is the first. We are friends, we talk and exchange text messages. He loves me, and I love him,” the Portuguese explained to reporters. “Even after all the trophies we won, what I feel most honored about is the friends that I have at each club that I have trained. We all already know that the period in Madrid was incredible for me, we did spectacular things,” he concluded.
If given the opportunity prior to Zidane, Jose Mourinho probably would have jumped at the chance to join Real Madrid again. It’s clear that Florentino Perez holds the Portuguese coach in high regard and the two share a mutual admiration for one and other. But, now with a new chapter set to unfold in the Mourinho journey, it’s clear that Mourinho’s return to Real Madrid is no where near as impending as some in the Spanish press made it out to be when Zidane’s side were struggling. Tottenham may be Mourinho’s last chance to prove himself as a top level manager.
