Three takeaways from Real Madrid’s 3-1 win against Real Sociedad

It’s time to consider Benzema as one of the world’s greatest strikers.

Real Madrid managed to earn a convincing and solid comeback 3-1 win against the up and coming Real Sociedad. Los Blancos didn’t start the game on a good note but soon started to neutralize Real Sociedad’s threats in the midfield and found a way to keep Martin Odegaard under control. Here are three takeaways from the game.

  1. Benzema deserves to be mentioned in the “World’s Best Striker” discussion. Sure, he’s never been this good and two seasons ago his scoring numbers were mediocre. However, he’s been phenomenal for the last year. The French attacker has been consistent enough for an extended period of time that it’s clear that his current form isn’t all that temporary. Personal preference and taste is fine and it’s not a problem to like Kun Agüero or Robert Lewandowski better, but Benzema is right there in the conversation. He belongs in that discussion.
  2. Valverde keeps impressing and adding things to his game. This time, the midfielder proved that he can also break through the opposition’s pressing system by dribbling the ball up the field. Valverde was quiet for most of the game but his presence in the midfield is one Zinedine Zidane just can’t replace right now. He has become a key player for Real Madrid.
  3. Bale played with character and showed that he can still be useful. Bale’s ability to play football and make an impact through Real Madrid’s right wing was never in question. He can still be a very useful player if he stays engaged. Last night, it’s clear that he tried to prove a point and quite possibly earned his presence in the starting XI when Madrid host PSG next Tuesday. Will he stay healthy and engaged throughout the entire season? That’s yet to be seen.
