Real Madrid to face Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern or Red Bull Leipzig in Champions League Round of 16

The draw for the Round of 16 won’t be easy for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid still have to play their last game of the Champions League Group Stage tonight against Brugge but they already know their potential opponents for the next round of the competition, given Los Blancos have already clinched their presence in the Round of 16 while the group winners have also been established.

Liverpool, Juventus, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Red Bull Leipzig are the candidates to face Real Madrid in the Round of 16. Barcelona, Valencia and PSG have also won their groups but are not eligible to face Los Blancos in the next stage of the European competition as Barça and Valencia are from the same league while PSG and Madrid were in the same group during the Group Stage.

Real Madrid have both the potential and the quality to beat any of those five teams, but it’s clear that Red Bull Leipzig and maybe Bayern would be the only “manageable” draw for Los Blancos. Liverpool, Juventus and Manchester City are three tough teams to play against this early in the competition and the advantage of playing the return leg at their own stadium would maybe give them an edge over Madrid.

In any case, you need to beat the best teams in European football to win the Champions League. Real Madrid are usually at their best in this competition and there’s no team they should be afraid of.
