Butragueño: “It’s baffling that VAR decided not to intervene”

Real Madrid’s spokesman didn’t mince words about the two plays which could’ve ended in a penalty for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid spokesman Emilio Butragueño talked to Movistar+’s Monica Marchante and discussed the two plays which could’ve —if not should’ve— resulted in a penalty for Los Blancos.

“You know we support the use of VAR because it’s literally impossible for the referee to see every play. It’s difficult to understand that VAR wasn’t used today. The disallowed goal it’s just a questionable call which we can accept, but it has to intervene in the other two plays. I don’t know what was said in the conversation between VAR and the referee but I guess they told him that nothing happened. It draws my attention and it’s baffling that VAR decided not to intervene because these are two very, very clear plays,” said the former striker when asked about the two potential penalties on Varane.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos also shared his thoughts on the controversial no-calls.

“VAR is there to be used and to be helpful. Some day it will be our turn to do a penalty which goes unchecked by the VAR,” said the defender.
