Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has also shared his thoughts about the controversy around the two missed penalty calls during Wednesday’s El Clasico against Barcelona. Madrid’s spokesman Emilio Butragueño and captain Sergio Ramos spoke clearly and believed that the VAR missed both plays, just like Casemiro.
“When the play happened live I had some doubts about it, but during half-time we saw the replay and Varane’s leg, it was an obvious penalty. We leave the Camp Nou a bit frustrated because they should’ve at least taken a look at it. If you do then you may call a penalty or not, but you have to at least give it a look,” said the midfielder.
Casemiro also explained why he doesn’t like VAR.
“I just don’t like it. Football is more beautiful with all the mistakes, the controversy, the arguments on the street...,” he said.
Casemiro will miss Real Madrid’s home match against Athletic Bilbao this Sunday after being booked during El Clasico. He’s been one of Real Madrid’s best players this season, so it will be interesting to see how Zidane replaces him in the lineup against a quality team like Athletic.
