Borussia Dortmund director of football Michael Zorc talked to German newspaper Bild and confirmed that his club will do their very best to keep Achraf Hakimi after his loan deal expires this next summer.
“We’ve said many times our interest in keeping Achraf past the summer, but it’s not the time to make a decision about it now. Ultimately it will all depend on Real Madrid but a decision hasn’t been made yet. We’ll talk in the next few weeks or months,” said Zorc.
It makes a lot of sense for Dortmund to do whatever they can in order to keep Achraf, but he’s a Real Madrid player, which means that Los Blancos will have the last word. Achraf clearly has the potential to compete with Carvajal for the starting spot in the right side of Madrid’s defensive line, so it would make sense for Madrid to keep him in the squad next season, especially after how poorly Odriozola has performed when given the chance to start in Carvajal’s spot.
Furthermore, Achraf’s ability to play as a left-back will also make him a very interesting asset. One which Real Madrid just can’t let go.
