Real Madrid have decided that they will bring back both Martin Odegaard and Achraf Hakimi, who are spending the 2019-2020 season on loan with Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund respectively. Their current clubs would like to keep them both past this season but Madrid want them to compete for a chance to start during the 2020-2021 campaign, according to a report from AS.
Odegaard has said many times this season that he would like to stay with Real Sociedad for another year and that was the deal agreed between Real Madrid and the Basque club. However, AS’ report mentions that the good relationship between the two sides will make it very easy for Madrid to recover Odegaard as soon as next summer. It won’t be easy for the Norwegian talent to start for Zidane’s team next season unless the Frenchman deploys him on the right wing, so maybe it would make sense for him to spend another year with Real Sociedad.
On the other hand, Achraf seems to be more than ready to compete with Dani Carvajal for the starting spot in Real Madrid’s right-back, which means that Alvaro Odriozola’s days in the club are numbered. Achraf has been impressive for Dortmund and Carvajal hasn’t been in good form lately, so it will be interesting to see their competition for the starting job.
