At Valdebebas today, in the final preparations before Real Madrid face Espanyol on Saturday in another early kickoff, Zidane’s men focused on pressing and ball possession before moving to physical drills, scrimmages in tight spaces, and finishing goalscoring chances.

Gareth Bale appeared out of the gym for the first time this week, but trained alone. Meanwhile, Marco Asensio, James Rodriguez, Eden Hazard, Lucas Vazquez and Marcelo focused on recovery. Zidane called up Diego Altube, Miguel Gutierrez, and Esteban from the youth team to join training.

In the press conference following the training, Zidane was asked about the timing of Bale’s injury and how it happened.

“It (the injury) occurred in the Alaves match,” Zidane said.

“We had two and a half days of rest and on the way back he suffered.

“That’s why he hasn’t trained with us. He did a little bit of training (on Friday), but not with us.”
