Donny Van de Beek looked set to sign for Real Madrid last summer, but in a strange twist of events - similar to that of Exequiel Palacios - the deal never materialized. Since the summer, Van de Beek has come out and hinted that the deal may still be on after being quoted as saying, “I will finish out the whole season with Ajax, Real Madrid know that”. Reports have now surfaced in Holland, specifically from Dutch outlet Telegraaf, that the move will go through this summer for a fee in the region of €55 million.
The dutch midfielder already has amassed 11 goals and 5 assists in all competitions. Tottenham Hotspur were also said to be heavily interested, but the player preferred to move to Real Madrid. According to Telegraaf, all three parties - Ajax, Real Madrid, and Van de Beek - have agreed to terms, but are currently holding off on an official announcement. Van de Beek will be the first signing for Real Madrid to help reinforce the 2020-2021 squad.
Managing Madrid have already detailed why Zidane may be interested in adding Van de Beek’s profile to his squad and what he could bring to the table. Speculation has already been rife with an impending departure of James Rodriguez to help make room for the Dutch player. Until an official announcement is made, there is no guaranteeing the arrival of the 22-year-old, but all signs point to him becoming a Real Madrid player.
