The Spanish Football Federation has appointed referee Mateu Lahoz as the man in charge of El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey Semifinals, which will be played at the Camp Nou next Wednesday.
Lahoz was also the referee the last time these two teams met in the domestic competition, which dates back to the 2014 Final where Bale scored the game-winning goal in stunning fashion.
Lahoz is a decent referee although his style tends to frustrate the players as he misses some obvious calls.
De Burgos Bengoetxea will be the one in charge of VAR. He is the referee who sent Cristiano Ronaldo off during the 2017 Spanish Super Cup Final even though the Portuguese player did not dive.
Lahoz and Bengoetxea will surely have some pressure next Wednesday as there has been some controversy about the referees in La Liga this season, even after the implementation of VAR.
