FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi had to leave the home match against Valencia in La Liga with a thigh problem and is now questionable for Wednesday’s match against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey Semifinals.
“Between tomorrow and the day after we will have to make a decision. I’d like to say what he has and be clear about it but I don’t know what it is, it might be just a small problem. We will wait and see what the doctors say about it,” said coach Ernesto Valverde after the game.
Real Madrid will visit the Camp Nou on Wednesday hoping to earn redemption after the embarrassing defeat they suffered there last October, when former coach Julen Lopetegui was still in charge. If Messi can’t go, it’s clear that Madrid’s odds will be increased, but Los Blancos will also have a decent chance of winning the game if he is able to play given the encouraging performances they’ve completed lately.
