Kovacic won’t be able to stay in Chelsea after transfer ban

The midfielder appeared to be keen on staying in London.

British club Chelsea FC received a two-window transfer ban from FIFA this week and that could dramatically change the future of Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic, who is spending the season in London on a loan deal and wanted to stay there.

Kovacic’s loan deal expires this very same summer and Chelsea won’t be allowed to complete a permanent deal for him after this ban, so he will have to either fight for a spot in Real Madrid or try to find a new club elsewhere. Kovacic has said time and time again that he wants to be a starter and that doesn’t seem very likely in Real Madrid, where Casemiro, Kroos and Modric are undisputed starters.

Apparently, Juventus and Inter Milan are interested in the signing of the young midfielder, while other British clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United or Tottenham could also make a move if they’re willing to offer Kovacic the kind of role he wants.
