Real Madrid announced the signing of club legend Zinedine Zidane as Solari’s replacement. The Frenchman is back coaching the team after spending the past nine months getting some much needed rest. Zidane will stay with the club until 2022 and he explained to the press why he decided to return to Madrid.

“Back then I thought the club and the squad needed a change after all those successful years. This is what happens in the club. That’s what I thought. Now I’m back because the president called me and I love him and the club so much, so here I am. That’s the most important thing and I’m looking forward to training again,” said Zidane.

‘Change’ was clearly the most mentioned word during his press conference.

“We do have to make some changes for the next few years and we will. But right now there’s no time to talk about that, we will see what we can do. We have 11 games left in our schedule and we want to end on a high note. I love this club and that’s what I’m here for,” he added.

Zidane also explained why he left the club last summer.

“I want to be clear. When I left I thought that it was what the players needed. It’s not that I wanted to leave, I thought that we needed a change after two seasons winning almost every single thing. I know how this club works but I thought I made the right call,” said the coach, who also added that he had “several offers” but he “wanted to be here.”

Zidane was also asked about Bale, Marcelo or Isco who have been struggling this season.

“It’s not controversial for me. I’m back and the players have won it all, I will not go into what has happened with them. I just want to be back and get back to work,” concluded the coach.
