Real Madrid have contacted Inter Milan attacker Mauro Icardi and are willing to improve other offers for the player, according to a report from Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri.

While Real Madrid have been interested in Icardi for quite a while, Zinedine Zidane’s focus could be somewhere else, given the trust he has on Karim Benzema. Icardi is a pure goalscorer and has been a quality striker for many years now, although it’s not clear if he really has the potential to start for Madrid on a consistent basis.

Even if Palmeri’s report is accurate, this would only be an approach. Real Madrid will improve their squad next summer and will need to spend quite some money. Still, there are 11 games to go and Los Blancos have not started the negotiations for any player.

Icardi, who is 26 years old, would be an interesting addition but Los Blancos will need much more if they want to rebuild their squad efficiently.
