Zidane has apparently given the go-ahead for the signing and Militao has already completed his medical. The contract is expected to run for 6 years, expiring in 2025. Eder Militao will look to follow in the footsteps of former Madrid great, Pepe. The Brazilian, naturalized Portuguese, spent 10 years at the club after transferring from FC Porto and is recognized as one of the best central defenders to have passed through the club. If Militao can replicate some of the success of his current teammate, he will certaintly have a bright future.
Unfortunately, the arrival of a young center back directly impacts another Madrid defender, Jesus Vallejo. The talent from Zaragoza is expected to leave on loan or sold all together to make room for Militao. Vallejo has had a torrid time with injuries, playing only a handful of games over the past 2 years.
Given Vallejo’s injury record, the club felt it was vital to reinforce the center back position, Militao should provide much needed depth. The Brazilian also has the versatility to play at right back, where he started with Sao Paolo, and has featured for FC Porto. Vinicius JR, Rodrygo, and Eder Militao—Real Madrid will have three of the brightest young talents to emerge from Brazil in recent years; cultivating that talent will be key to reaping the rewards of their investments.
