Real Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian defender Eder Militao, whose contract with Los Blancos will expire in 2025. Militao will keep playing for FC Porto until the end of the season and then he will join Real Madrid for the pre-season stage next summer.

MARCA reported earlier this Thursday that Madrid had secured the signing of the young defender. Los Blancos will pay €50 million to trigger his release clause with Porto. That release clause would have been increased to €75 million in June, so Real Madrid took advantage of that situation and decided to add some depth to the squad.

Militao is a young center-back who completed some highlighted performances this season. The arrival of Pepe has forced him to play as a right-back after the winter transfer window. He will compete for a starting spot with Varane and Ramos, although it’s clear that he might need to spend a few seasons being a reserve.

This move means that Real Madrid will almost certainly send Jesus Vallejo on a loan deal so that he can get the minutes he needs.
