Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos talked to Cadena SER in Spain’s training camp during this FIFA break and shared his thoughts on Zinedine Zidane’s return to Los Blancos and what it means for his role in the team.
“Zidane’s return for these remaining weeks is crucial for us and definitely a positive for Real Madrid, we all know what he has achieved,” said Ceballos.
The Spanish midfielder couldn’t get meaningful minutes under Zidane last season but he’s hoping to change that.
“He’s always talked to me and he told me that this season I am performing well in all the matches he watched. He told me to keep going and that we will see what happens in the summer, but he let me know that I will get as many chances to prove myself than the rest of the team. He gave me confidence,” explained Ceballos.
Real Madrid will have to find a long-term replacement for Luka Modric sooner or later and Ceballos has shown the potential to be that kind of player. Kovacic could also step into that role if he ends up staying in Madrid past this next summer.
“We have not seen the best Ceballos in Real Madrid just yet but I think we will be able to see that kind of version before the end of the season. My wish is to succeed in Real Madrid. Take a look at Vinicius, he struggled a little bit early on but he ended up being one of the highlights of our season,” added the midfielder.
