Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane wants to leave the club this next summer, according to a report from L’Equipe which was published earlier this week. MARCA confirmed that report this Friday and add that Varane has already told his teammates about this decision.
Varane is still 25 years old but signed for Real Madrid no less than eight years ago. If he stays in Madrid he will surely become the team captain and the leader of the defensive line, but he’s apparently keen on finding a new challenge for his career.
These reports could probably mean that Varane wants a new contract with Real Madrid. That would make sense, given that he’s nowhere close to what other players like Modric, Ramos or Bale are earning at the moment. Varane probably feels like he has earned a better contract and his agent could be using these reports to put some pressure on Real Madrid’s side.
If he really wants to leave the club, he will need to reach some kind of agreement with the board just like Cristiano Ronaldo did, given that he has a €500 million release clause on his deal with Real Madrid.
