Mario Hermoso doesn’t expect to return to Real Madrid next summer

Espanyol defender Mario Hermoso has been rumored to be on Real Madrid’s radar to add some depth to the defensive line next summer. He developed as a player in Madrid’s academy and Los Blancos have an option to sign him, but Hermoso is under contract with Espanyol at least until 2020.

“Of course I will stay unless Espanyol decide to fire me. I’m under contract until 2020 and unless something weird happens,” said Hermoso.

“I’ve been playing two seasons in the Primera Division and two straight playing as a central defender. I’ve got room for improvement but I will surely learn as the time goes by so that I can keep improving,” he added.

Real Madrid definitely need some more depth at that position and Hermoso makes sense. However, the signing of Militao probably closed the door for him as Los Blancos will have three quality defenders on their roster next season. If Varane tries to force his way out though, Madrid could change their mind.
