Eden Hazard scored one of the goal’s of the season this past Monday against London rivals, West Ham. The individual skill and sheer tenacity shown in one play has been largely lacking from Real Madrid’s attack this season. The Belgian drew a series of plaudits after the match and the persistent links to Real Madrid have only intensified. Nearly every journalist is trying to eek out another revealing quote from Hazard. Radio Monte Carlo managed to do so with Eden speaking glowingly about his idol Zidane and the club for which he is affiliated, Real Madrid. “I’m not a Real Madrid player, but as a supporter of Zidane, I’m very happy he returned because football needs Zidane. For the other teams his return is not so good because Real Madrid and Zidane win a lot, so it will be complicated for the rest” he concluded.
Even Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri has been drawn out on the subject a few times, including after the win against West Ham on Monday. Speaking to reporters after the match he commented on Hazard, “I cannot do anything [to change his mind] because the club agrees with me, but if Eden wants to make another experience it will be very difficult to keep him”. Sarri and Chelsea will do everything they can to keep their star man, with the Chelsea boss letting his sentiments known regarding the Belgian’s potential price: “€100 million is too cheap in this market. It’s impossible to find another Hazard, his level is so high. You would have to find two players to make the level of Hazard”. Reports in Spain have suggested that the deal between Hazard, Madrid, and Chelsea is already wrapped up and will likely be announced before the end of the season.
