Real Madrid could only get a 1-1 draw on their visit to Leganes and seem to have lost some of the momentum they gained after Zinedine Zidane’s return to the team. Los Blancos struggled creating chances even though players like Isco or Asensio completed solid performances.

“We didn’t have a good first half, but improved after the break. We all have to give a bit more,” said Zidane after the game.

Karim Benzema scored Madrid’s only goal, proving once again that he’s been the team’s most reliable option upfront and a player who should have already earned a spot for next season.

“Benzema is having a very good season, particularly as far as goals are concerned. He’s focusing on his goalscoring. He’s a fantastic player and this season he’s scoring far more goals. I’m delighted for him. He’s used to rumors, but that won’t change anything for him. He’s shown his character and he’s doing a good job for the team,” explained the coach when asked about his attacker.

Isco played as a left winger on a 4-3-3 formation and played well. He might enter next summer in a tough spot after his poor season but Zidane has always valued his contribution, so Real Madrid might not give up on their midfielder so soon.

“He looks good to me. He plays better in the middle and not in the position he played today. We played with a 4-3-3 and he tried to change the course of the game through the left,” said Zidane.

Things are quite different for Gareth Bale, though. The Welshman entered the game quite late and didn’t look engaged at all. It’s clear that Zidane will want to part ways with him.

“Bale is an important player in this squad. I wanted to make changes today and that’s it. Its difficult to get in to a game when you only play 10 or 15 minutes, but substitutions are made to change the game and we were unable to do that,” concluded the French coach.
