Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane talked to the press ahead of Thursday’s away match against Getafe, a match where Thibaut Courtois will return to the team after the injury he picked up this month.
“Courtois is ready, he trained with us and is available to the coach and the team. It’s not the time to talk about that [the future]. Courtois and Keylor are available and Luca is not,” said Zidane. “The goalkeepers have contracts and what I have to do, I will do. It’s my responsibility, but now is not the time. Next year I will be very clear. Anything can happen. I have the two best goalkeepers and a young man with a future. The most difficult thing is to leave players at home for each game after training during the week. The players are here to train and are ready to play,” he added when asked again about the future of that spot.
The Frenchman also talked about the many rumors surrounding the club, saying that Madrid will definitely need to sell some players.
“If you buy players, someone has to go. We now have 25 players and of course if someone comes in, another will leave, but that’s normal within a squad. All teams, when they reach the end of the season, are asked about comings and goings. We are going to change something, but it’s the same in every team,” explained the coach.
Zidane also revealed that the team will focus in La Liga next year.
“We have won 33 league titles. How many have Barcelona won? They’ve been doing well lately and you have to congratulate them and acknowledge this. But if we’re talking about Madrid’s numbers, we have more league titles and I’m not saying this to defend myself, but because you’ve told me Barça are doing better in the league recently. We have to change this dynamic. I can tell you that we’re going to try to start La Liga in the best way possible next season. We have to make La Liga our main goal next season,” said Zidane, who conquered the last domestic trophy for the club.
To conclude, the Frenchman announced that Vinicius is not ready to make his return from injury just yet.
“Tomorrow he won’t play. He has more work to do yet. He has had two months of injuries and we have to be patient,” said the coach.
