Spanish publication, Marca, has Ferland Mendy splashed out on the cover of their May 1st paper.

The report states that the soon to be 24-year-old (birthday in June) French left back, Mendy, is who Zidane wants to compete with Marcelo next season. The player currently plys his trade in Lyon, but is on the radar of other clubs like Napoli and Sevilla. Lyon would be looking for a transfer fee in the region of €40 million.

Mendy has appeared in 40 matches this season for Lyon, amassing close to 3,000 minutes and producing three goals and two assists. The left back is a product of the PSG and Le Harve youth systems. He debut in the first division with Le Harve in 2015 before transferring to Lyon in 2017. He made his debut for France in November of 2018, playing the full 90 minutes in a win against Uruguay.

If the rumors are to be believed, this would not be good news for Sergio Reguilon after his breakout season. The cantera product has been a revelation this year and one of the few bright spots in a dark season along with Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior. The hope for Madrid fans would be a loan for Reguilon, which could see him eventually return once Marcelo’s time at Real Madrid comes to an end. Along with Reguilon, the futures of both Theo Hernandez and even Achraf Hakimi are also put into the air.
