Real Madrid have told Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas that he will not be in their plans next season, according to a report from Jugones and later confirmed by MARCA and ABC. Madrid chose to bet on Thibaut Courtois and therefore, it looks like Navas will leave the club five years after his signing.
Navas did not make Real Madrid’s squad list to face Real Sociedad this past Sunday. Coach Zinedine Zidane told the goalkeeper about the decision to trust Courtois for next season and that left Navas quite frustrated, per those same reports.
Now, the club and the goalkeeper will try to find a new team willing to match Navas’ salary. It might not be easy given that he’s already 32 years old, so Madrid might need to accept very small offers if they really want to get a deal done.
Navas has won three Champions Leagues, one LaLiga Santander title, three Club World Cups and three European Super Cups during his tenure in the Spanish capital.
