Former Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui has talked to YouTube channel The Coaches’ Voice about his departure from the club, revealing that he felt that Los Blancos still had a chance to turn things around when he was in charge.
“We started playing very well and completed some brilliant games, but then we had three consecutive weeks when we just were very unlucky in front of the goal in games where we were the best team. This can happen to every single team and we felt like we still had time to turn things around because the players were committed and they were willing to give their all,” said Lopetegui.
Lopetegui is right when he says that Madrid were implementing an appealing brand of football. However, his team also had flaws and it’s hard to blame the club for parting ways with him. The decision to appoint Santiago Solari as his replacement is an entirely different animal though, as he was even more disappointing than Lopetegui.
