Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric will sign a contract extension with the club until June 2021 and the deal will be official very soon, according to a report from MARCA. Modric’s previous deal with Real Madrid was going to expire in 2020 but that contract included a clause that guaranteed an extra year for the player after winning the Ballon D’Or, which he did last January.

Modric will turn 34 years old next September and it’s clear that Real Madrid need to find a long term replacement for him very soon. The midfielder has completed some good performances during the second half of the season but he might need to get more and more rest as he gets older.

Madrid are apparently going to sign a quality midfielder this summer, with the likes of Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen on their radar, so Modric could slowly become a quality reserve in order to get the best from him when he’s on the field.
