Hyped About a Real Madrid Women’s Team

Will we see Las Blancas sign the best players in the world?

As you have all seen by now, we finally have a women’s team! Real Madrid bought out Club Deportivo Tacon for far less than what an MLS expansion team would cost, €500,000. (For those wondering, anyone wanting to get in on the 28th or 29th expansion team will have to shell out $200 million USD.) Quite frankly, it’s about time. Liga Femenina Iberdrola has been around since 1988 with FC Barcelona as one of the founding teams and we should have been right there with them, but we weren’t. As Gabe Lezra pointed out back in September, we were woefully behind the rest of Europe when it came to the women’s game. Purchasing Tacon sure brings us a heck of a lot closer to everyone else.

There’s a lot of work ahead of us to get all the way even though. We still have a full season before our Las Blancas take the field, but I’m already wondering whose kit I’m going to buy. (Let’s be honest. It will probably be the kit of whichever defender is the most ruthless.)

One commenter on Lucas’ article mentioned buying the US Women’s National Team and all I could think about was how cool would a Real Madrid Crystal Dunn kit be? Or maybe drawing former PSG player and Colorado girl, Lindsey Horan, back to Europe to play? What about Rose Lavelle? Man. Any of them would be great. I can’t wait to see who we pick up and who, if any, from the original team, stays. Is it the 2020/2021 season yet? Hala Madrid!
