“Olympique Lyonnais deny an agreement with Real Madrid for a potential transfer of international defender Ferland Mendy, contrary to what certain outlets are reporting,” tweeted Lyon.
Still, it seems that Mendy is Real Madrid’s choice for the left-back spot. It’s a bit surprising to see that the club wants to spend that much on a backup for Marcelo, who is expected to start next season, even more so after Zinedine Zidane’s return.
Furthermore, Achraf Hakimi has been impressive with Dortmund and Madrid will have to make a decision about his future after the 2019-2020 season, so having Carvajal, Odriozola, Marcelo and Mendy will not give him room to play.
Mendy is a very physical left-back whose style of play would give Zidane more options for the team’s offensive system.
