Real Madrid defender Marcelo Viera talked to Esporte Espetacular and shared his thoughts on the return of Zinedine Zidane to the Spanish club.
“He’s like a big brother to me, I was so happy when his return was official, not so much because I got to play again but because of the joy he brought with him,” said the Brazilian left-back.
Marcelo is not representing his country in the 2019 Copa America as coach Tite left him out of the squad list. It’s hard to blame Tite after Marcelo’s poor season, so the defender will have to earn the starting job in Madrid’s left-back in order to play for Brazil again.
“The only thing I can do is work harder than ever to wear Brazil’s jersey again, it’s definitely one of my goals,” explained Marcelo.
The defender will have tough competition for the starting spot after the signing of French left-back Ferland Mendy. Real Madrid spent €50 million to sign the physical defender and that means that they clearly trust him, so Marcelo will need to be very consistent and reliable in order to regain control of the starting job.
