Real Madrid announced the transfer of Mateo Kovacic to Chelsea on their official website.
Real Madrid C. F. and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement over the transfer of Mateo Kovacic.
The club wishes to thank Kovacic for his commitment, professionalism and the exemplary conduct he has displayed over the course of these years, whilst wishing him all the very best in this new chapter.
Kovacic wanted to leave Real Madrid as he felt that he was not going to be a starter with Modric, Casemiro and Kroos on the team. He was probably right, and while it’s disappointing to see a promising player like Kovacic leaving the club, his performances for Chelsea during the 2018-2019 season had been discouraging.
Chelsea paid €45 million to sign Kovacic away from Real Madrid and Los Blancos spent €38 million when they signed the Croatian midfielder. Los Blancos took a chance on Kovacic’s potential and ultimately earned some money.
