Operation Salida has been in full effect and the transfer outgoings do not look to be slowing down. A report from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, states that Italian giants, Roma, will be meeting with Mariano’s agent in Italy. This will be the second meeting, after both the player and agent had apparently met with the club earlier this summer in Madrid. The talks are still very much in the preliminary stages. Roma are also said to be looking at Gonzalo Higuaín in an attempt to find a new number nine.
Roma are not the only club interested in Mariano’s services. Tottenham Hotspur have also been heavily linked as they look for someone to replace Fernando Llorente and compete with Harry Kane. On the front cover of Marca for July 10th, is a list of players who are deemed surplus to requirements, of which Mariano is included:

Whether or not the player wants to leave is an entirely different question all together. Mariano has already come out earlier this summer and stated his intent to stay, claiming that the next season will be his. With the arrival of Luka Jovic and importance of Karim Benzema to Zinedine Zidane’s system, minutes would be hard to come by. Roma and Tottenham will have to agree a fee with Real Madrid and then complete the hard work of convincing the player of their project and his role.
