Xabi Alonso speaks on joining Real Sociedad B from Real Madrid

Former Real Madrid midfielder and U14s coach Xabi Alonso spoke with MARCA recently after being appointed as Real Sociedad B’s new manager.

“I think there are moments for everything in life as there was a moment to leave and another to return.”

“Now, I have reasons to return to an exciting project and there are also vital reasons, like going home.”

“I was very happy at Real Madrid, but coming to Real Sociedad is really exciting as I can improve at home.”

Xabi is from Toloso, which is just outside San Sebastián in Basque Country, where both Sociedad affiliates play. This is both a big career and life move for him, as he’ll be coaching a more mature club than he was at Real Madrid. And of course as he mentioned, he’ll be doing it at home.

If all goes well Real Madrid could see Alonso at some point in a different managerial position. It would be great for Real to remain a working relationship with Xabi in the future. For now, he can hopefully take the next big step in his managerial career and find success in his hometown.

Nadal comments on Pogba to Real Madrid rumors

Tennis great and Real Madrid fan Rafael Nadal was asked prior to his Wimbledon match with fellow legend Roger Federer about the Pogba rumors surrounding his favorite club.

You can watch Rafa in his own words from ESPN below:

Nadal has since lost to Federer in the semi-final of Wimbledon. But, he does actually give a bit of a shared sentiment here by saying he’d be against an “exaggerated” fee, which is what Manchester United have been rumored to be requesting.

Pogba is obviously very talented, but the rumored €150 million asking price is a bit too steep, at least for my liking. That’s coupled by the fact that United don’t seem interested at all in selling him despite all these rumors, so they’d be unlikely to back down from that price.

The summer is not over and the new season is still a ways out from kicking off. But, I would bet against seeing Pogba in a white shirt come August 17.

RealMadridTV to broadcast every International Champions Cup friendly on website

According to RealMadridTV’s David Álvarez, Real Madrid will be broadcasting each match of the ICC 2019 tournament across the United States on their website.

This is pretty big as everyone with internet access can watch the club play in this preseason tournament, and not just those fans in the US. It’s a great way to see some of the developmental players get time with the big club as well as the stars get into form before the new season begins in August.

Real Madrid kick off their ICC campaign against Bayern Munich at the Houston Texans’ NRG Stadium on July 20. They then travel to Maryland to take on Arsenal at the Washington Redskins’ FedexField on July 23. And finally, we’ll get El Derbi Madrileño on July 26 when both Madrid clubs travel to Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.
